Code of Conduct

How we expect everyone in RISE Hackathon 2026 to behave: students, mentors, jury and organisers.

Contents

Plain-language summary

Written in plain language. Where a detail has not been decided yet, this page says so rather than guessing.

Respect

  • Treat teammates, other teams, mentors, jury and organisers with courtesy and respect.
  • No bullying, harassment, discrimination or offensive language, in person or online.
  • Listen to feedback. Disagree politely and give reasons.
  • Respect other people’s privacy. Do not share another person’s personal details, photographs or messages without their permission.

Originality and honesty

  • Submit only work that is the team’s own, and cite any open-source parts, libraries or tutorials you use.
  • Do not copy another team’s work, and do not let another team copy yours.
  • Give true information when registering, including every member’s grade and school.
  • Be ready to explain every decision in your solution. Understanding matters more than a polished presentation.

Safety

  • Follow lab and electrical safety instructions at all times.
  • Build and test prototypes safely. If something could hurt someone, stop and ask for help before going on.
  • Do not take risks with batteries, mains electricity, moving parts or anything that flies.

Mentors and boundaries

  • Mentors guide; they do not build, code or write presentations for teams. Students remain responsible for the solution.
  • Mentoring is not scored.
  • Keep conversations with mentors about the project, through the channels the organisers provide. Official decisions and records are sent by email.
  • If anything a mentor says or does makes you uncomfortable, tell a teacher, a parent or the organisers.

At the Grand Finale

Be on time, follow the instructions of the organisers, and respect the jury’s time and decisions. The decisions of the organisers and the jury are final.

Raising a concern

If you see or experience behaviour that breaks this code, tell the organisers by email. A teacher or parent can write on a student’s behalf. Concerns will be handled with care.

Disqualification

Unsafe or disruptive behaviour can lead to disqualification. So can plagiarism, giving false information, tampering with another team’s work or the evaluation, or serious disrespect towards others.

The organisers decide what action is appropriate, up to and including disqualification of a team or member. How a team can respond to such a decision has not been decided and will be published by the organisers.
